The people behind Brave Step.

Hayden

Co-Director & Operations Manager
Connected to disability support since a young age, I’ve spent the last five years turning that into professional work alongside people with autism, psychosocial disability, intellectual disability and complex needs.
I believe people should always be at the centre of their own decisions, and I bring a calm, steady presence to that. Alongside leading day-to-day operations, I stay hands-on, working directly with participants and mentoring the team.
Outside work, you’ll find me on a long walk, in the garden, or hunting for a dropped Lego piece. I like things that take patience, whether that’s a garden bed or a 3,000-piece build.

Ryan

Co-director & Business Manager

For the past four years, I’ve worked directly alongside people with disability, helping them pursue their goals, build independence and enjoy more of the things that matter to them.

Before becoming a support worker, I was a management consultant and human-centred design specialist focused on the disability sector. That background shaped how I approach support today: start by listening, understand what works for the individual, and adapt rather than expecting the person to fit around a system or routine.

I’m calm and pragmatic, but I also like to bring some fun into the way I work. Whether we’re tackling everyday responsibilities, trying something new or just having a laugh, I aim to create an environment that feels relaxed, respectful and led by the person I’m supporting.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me walking my dog, at the beach, watching movies or playing video games. I enjoy history, strategy games and getting absorbed in a good story, whether it’s on screen, in a game or somewhere new.

Shallin

Support worker

I’m Shallin, and I’ve been a support worker for about 8 years now. I’ve worked with people with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, psychosocial and physical disabilities. Different needs, different personalities, but it’s all taught me a lot.

I’d say I’m calm and easy-going, and I take it seriously when I say I’ll be somewhere or do something; reliability matters to me. I like keeping things simple and comfortable rather than overly formal.
Outside of work I’m usually cooking something, at the gym, or watching cricket. If that overlaps with what someone I’m supporting is into, even better.
